The EscentioDirect shop is growing each day. Not only are we adding on new aromatherapy inhalers on a regular basis, we also strive to expand our aromatherapy offerings, as well as introducing new categories, like our latest, Manuscripts & Books. 

Yesterday, we tested out a few options for a new product offering: Aromatherapy Necklaces and Pendants. While the trial runs that we've posted here for your review are done in a white clay, the product line we'll soon be officially launching will be in terra cotta. 

At the moment, we're anticipating a price point of about $8.99 for just the pendant, and probably $11.99 if we make it a full on necklace.

How To Use an Aromatherapy Pendant

Jewelry can make a very convenient and effective aromatherapy diffuser. In the case of these, you have the option of rubbing a few drops of your favorite essential oil into the front or back of the pendant. 

We personally recommend that you use the front of the pendant to apply the oil, as some people have very sensitive skin that could react if the oil makes direct contact. 

Regardless of whether you use the front or the back of the pendant, the heat of your body will "activate" the essential oils in much the same way Scratch-and-Sniff stickers used to work, back in the day.

Secrets of Lavender Essential Oil Exposed!

In the world of aromatherapy, few essential oils are as popular or as effective as lavender. A familiar fragrance frequently associated with the English countryside, the tiny purple flower has been dried and used in remedies and concoctions for centuries.

 

Incredibly versatile, today’s lavender essential oil is harvested using a method known as steam distillation, a system a bit like a moonshine still which expresses the fresh, floral and woodsy oil for use in a host of aromatherapy treatments (from tinctures to “neat” dosages) using hot steam.

In the case of lavender essential oil, its versatility is unmatched. In fact, it’s sometimes easier to narrow down what it can’t do versus the exhaustive list of what it can.

Despite being the Swiss Army Knife of the aromatherapist’s arsenal there are three primary purposes that lavender essential oil is put to: rest and relaxation, as a remedy for insomnia and as a trust and security booster.

Lavender Oil for Rest & Relaxation

Not only is lavender ridiculously effective for increasing the spirit of rest and relaxation, it’s generally considered safe for small children and pregnant women – two pretty considerable fan groups. You’ll frequently fin it in lotions and massage oils and it’s a popular scent in candles. Because of the woodsy undertones, men often don’t find it as offensive as they might more floral notes like rose or ylang ylang.

At bedtime and bath-time, lavender is a clear winner. There is even some evidence to suggest that lavender actually stimulates the brainwaves that naturally promote deeper, more satisfying sleep.

seen these terms and asked yourself, "What in the world does that mean?"

Now you can know!

If you're thinking about investing in your own kit of aromatherapy inhalers and have started looking into all of the benefits, here's some of the lingo you're likely to encounter.

Anti-Fungal
This just means that the essential oil in question has been heralded for an ability to treat or prevent fungal growth or infections. Be sure to check these facts against credible studies before buying what you read hook, like and sinker.

Anti-Inflammatory
Reducing inflammation.

Antineuralagic
Inhibiting or preventing the occurrence of sharp pains along the course of a nerve or nerves.

Antiplogistic
Another word for anti-inflammatory, but can also include fever relieving properties.

Antiseptic
Indicates that an ingredient is clean and pure and that it prevents growth of disease-inducing agents or other microbials.

Antispasmodic
Something that works to relieve spasms that occur in involuntary muscles (like the intestines or the heart, that you can't start or stop at will).

Apertif
An essential oil that works to stimulate your appetite.

Aphrodisiac
Something that stimulates or titillates sexual desire, attraction or excitement.

Aromatherapy
A branch of holistic medicines that utilizes plant materials and oils (including essential oils and compounds) in an endeavor to alter mood, mental prowess, psychological and/or physical well being of enthusiasts.  For centuries, aromatherapy was the cutting edge of chemistry. Today, it is viewed as an alternative medicine, though new scientific studies emerge on a consistent basis showing that aromatherapy can have powerful applications.

Astringent
A solution that causes contractions in the tissues of the body in general, but is almost universally used in conjunction with the skin in health and wellness applications.

Bactericidal
This is a rather broad term that indicates a myriad of agents that kill bacteria, including disinfectants, antiseptics and antibiotics.

Carminative
A rather polite term for something that helps to relieve gas, specifically flatulence. Think Bean-o.

Cholagogue
Bile is a digestive fluid that is produced by the liver and measured out by the gall bladder. Cholagogues are items that promote the discharge of bile through and out of the system.

Cicatrisant
A pretty archaic term that basically translates into the process of being healed through the formation of scar tissue.

Cordial
Since this is also a pretty popular foodie term, ferreting out details on this one was pretty tough. As far as I could gather, it's something that is reviving and invigorating. It's also synonymous with medicine, specifically a stimulant or a tonic. The good news is that cordials, as the earlier association implies, are said to have a comforting or pleasant taste.

Cytophylactic
Certainly not a term that pops up over the typical dinner conversation, a cytophylactic is believed to protect cells and fight infections. They are thought to increase something known as leucocytes, which are responsible for stimulating cellular regeneration and repair.

Depurative
Those who are into detoxing and cleansing are all about the depurative, a term that means something has purifying and detoxifying properties, cleansing away wastes and toxins from the system.

Digestive
Something that aids in digestion.

Disinfectant
This means that the solution has anti-microbial properties or agents.

Diuretic
If you look to the very center of the word, "ure", you'll get a hint. Diuretics cause your body to increase the production and passage of urine.

What Is An Aromatherapy Inhaler?

There are a number of different options available when searching for an aromatherapy diffuser. When it comes to being compact, practical and within easy reach, aromatherapy inhalers are a great option.

Dimensions: Roughly 5/8" x 2"

Our inhalers are 5/8" in diameter and a little over 2" long. Your kit of four inhalers comes in a convenient flip-top carrying tin.

The typical inhaler will last from 3-6 months.

Although the inhaler is not intended to be inserted into the nasal cavity but instead to "block off" the nostril for an intense scent experience, you shouldn't share your nasal aromatherapy inhalers with others. Instead, invite them to order one from our Facebook Shop.

You can disinfect your inhaler by swiping them down with a cotton ball dampened with rubbing alcohol (avoid getting alcohol into the scent release hole at the top) as needed.
