Coming Soon: Aromatherapy Diffuser Pendants and Necklaces

Dragonfly Imprint
The EscentioDirect shop is growing each day. Not only are we adding on new aromatherapy inhalers on a regular basis, we also strive to expand our aromatherapy offerings, as well as introducing new categories, like our latest, Manuscripts & Books.

Yesterday, we tested out a few options for a new product offering: Aromatherapy Necklaces and Pendants. While the trial runs that we've posted here for your review are done in a white clay, the product line we'll soon be officially launching will be in terra cotta.

At the moment, we're anticipating a price point of about $8.99 for just the pendant, and probably $11.99 if we make it a full on necklace.

What are your thoughts?

How To Use an Aromatherapy Pendant

Jewelry can make a very convenient and effective aromatherapy diffuser. In the case of these, you have the option of rubbing a few drops of your favorite essential oil into the front or back of the pendant.

We personally recommend that you use the front of the pendant to apply the oil, as some people have very sensitive skin that could react if the oil makes direct contact.

Regardless of whether you use the front or the back of the pendant, the heat of your body will "activate" the essential oils in much the same way Scratch-and-Sniff stickers used to work, back in the day.

Sand Dollar
We are also testing a few where there are small holes drilled into the pendant for the oil, so that we'll have the option of painting the finished pieces to add an element of color.

Secrets of Lavender Essential Oil Exposed!

“When in doubt, try lavender out!”

In the world of aromatherapy, few essential oils are as popular or as effective as lavender. A familiar fragrance frequently associated with the English countryside, the tiny purple flower has been dried and used in remedies and concoctions for centuries.

Incredibly versatile, today’s lavender essential oil is harvested using a method known as steam distillation, a system a bit like a moonshine still which expresses the fresh, floral and woodsy oil for use in a host of aromatherapy treatments (from tinctures to “neat” dosages) using hot steam.

In the case of lavender essential oil, its versatility is unmatched. In fact, it’s sometimes easier to narrow down what it can’t do versus the exhaustive list of what it can.

Despite being the Swiss Army Knife of the aromatherapist’s arsenal there are three primary purposes that lavender essential oil is put to: rest and relaxation, as a remedy for insomnia and as a trust and security booster.

Lavender Oil for Rest & Relaxation

Not only is lavender ridiculously effective for increasing the spirit of rest and relaxation, it’s generally considered safe for small children and pregnant women – two pretty considerable fan groups. You’ll frequently fin it in lotions and massage oils and it’s a popular scent in candles. Because of the woodsy undertones, men often don’t find it as offensive as they might more floral notes like rose or ylang ylang.

Lavender has been shown to calm down the nervous system an also to slow the heart rate down.

Lavender Oil as an Insomnia Remedy

At bedtime and bath-time, lavender is a clear winner. There is even some evidence to suggest that lavender actually stimulates the brainwaves that naturally promote deeper, more satisfying sleep.

What some people don’t know is that large amounts of lavender in high concentrations can actually have the opposite effect and serve as a stimulant. So, if your goal is a good night’s sleep, less is more.

Lavender Oil as a Trust & Security Booster

A recent study found that when measured against other essential oils, lavender is the hands down winner to inspire feelings of trust and security. This could have significant implications at negotiating tables, closing tables and even first-date dinner tables.

Considering how these three major benefits of lavender oil play upon one another’s strengths, it should come as no surprise that lavender could be a powerful ally in the quest to increase confidence in public speaking, presentations and other intimidating social settings.

However, for the sake of safety, be careful not to dose yourself with lavender oil while driving or on long road trips. If you need to be alert and invigorated, either skip lavender altogether or pair it with a stimulating citrus essential oil like lemon, tangerine or grapefruit.

Secrets of Ginger Essential Oil Exposed!

Ginger is native to a host of different nations, including India, China, Africa and the West Indies. Potent and exotic, the very essence of ginger is captured in essential oil form through a process known as steam distillation.

Steam distillation uses a still (much like the kind you'd associate with the manufacture of moonshine) full of the organic material, in this case ginger root. Then hot steam is forced over the material and releasing the essential oils for harvest. It's a bit more complicated than that, but that's the essence of how the process works.
Ginger Root

While there is a great deal of legend and lore associated with ginger, in modern aromatherapy, it is prized for three primary reasons: as a natural libido booster, as a digestive aid and as an effective nausea fighter.

Ginger to Lift a Lagging Libido

Ginger has been employed as a sexual stimulant for centuries, perhaps because the uses of ginger are so versatile. Ginger can be added to the diet, or ginger essential oil can offer all of the aromatherapy benefits, it can be consumed in teas and drinks and much, much more.

In various trials and studies, ginger has been shown to increase blood flow- an essential element to a boosted libido.

Ginger as a Digestive Aid

Even WebMD acknowledges that ginger’s digestive powers are more than mere folklore. There is a growing amount of scientific evidence that ginger can aid in both digestion and saliva production and flow.

There have also been a combination of lab and animal studies that suggest ginger can lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels as well. However, when taken in a dietary form, ginger can cause gas, heartburn, a slightly upset stomach and irritation of the mouth. Because of these potential side effects, it’s a good idea to introduce ginger into your diet slowly and incrementally to avoid potential discomfort.

Ginger to Fight Nausea

Gentle Ginger Aromatherapy Inhaler
Studies have systematically shown support that ginger can fight off nausea and vomiting – especially the nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy and morning sickness. However, there is some concern in the medical community that ginger could lead to potential pregnancy risks, so an OBGYN should be consulted before adopting a do-it-yourself approach.

As an added bonus, ginger is an effective hangover remedy. Consider keeping a personal ginger aromatherapy inhaler handy. They can be stored discretely, won’t disturb coworkers or others in the immediate vicinity and take effect almost instantaneously. BUY YOURS NOW!

Nations and cultures have prized the power of ginger for centuries. Why not harness the power of ginger to improve your own life today?

The Essential Oil Glossary: Common Aromatherapy Terms & Their Meanings (A-D)

One of the first things I noticed when I started getting hot and heavy with my research on aromatherapy and essential oils is that there is an entire jargon that surrounds the industry and can get pretty confusing to the average reader. If you've ever done any research on the benefits or history of essential terms, you've probably
Source: www.openclipart.org
seen these terms and asked yourself, "What in the world does that mean?"

Now you can know!

If you're thinking about investing in your own kit of aromatherapy inhalers and have started looking into all of the benefits, here's some of the lingo you're likely to encounter.

Anti-Fungal
This just means that the essential oil in question has been heralded for an ability to treat or prevent fungal growth or infections. Be sure to check these facts against credible studies before buying what you read hook, like and sinker.

Anti-Inflammatory
Reducing inflammation.

Antineuralagic
Inhibiting or preventing the occurrence of sharp pains along the course of a nerve or nerves.

Antiplogistic
Another word for anti-inflammatory, but can also include fever relieving properties.

Antiseptic
Indicates that an ingredient is clean and pure and that it prevents growth of disease-inducing agents or other microbials.

Antispasmodic
Something that works to relieve spasms that occur in involuntary muscles (like the intestines or the heart, that you can't start or stop at will).

Apertif
An essential oil that works to stimulate your appetite.

Aphrodisiac
Something that stimulates or titillates sexual desire, attraction or excitement.

Aromatherapy
A branch of holistic medicines that utilizes plant materials and oils (including essential oils and compounds) in an endeavor to alter mood, mental prowess, psychological and/or physical well being of enthusiasts.  For centuries, aromatherapy was the cutting edge of chemistry. Today, it is viewed as an alternative medicine, though new scientific studies emerge on a consistent basis showing that aromatherapy can have powerful applications.

Astringent
A solution that causes contractions in the tissues of the body in general, but is almost universally used in conjunction with the skin in health and wellness applications.

Bactericidal
This is a rather broad term that indicates a myriad of agents that kill bacteria, including disinfectants, antiseptics and antibiotics.

Carminative
A rather polite term for something that helps to relieve gas, specifically flatulence. Think Bean-o.

Cholagogue
Bile is a digestive fluid that is produced by the liver and measured out by the gall bladder. Cholagogues are items that promote the discharge of bile through and out of the system.

Cicatrisant
A pretty archaic term that basically translates into the process of being healed through the formation of scar tissue.

Cordial
Since this is also a pretty popular foodie term, ferreting out details on this one was pretty tough. As far as I could gather, it's something that is reviving and invigorating. It's also synonymous with medicine, specifically a stimulant or a tonic. The good news is that cordials, as the earlier association implies, are said to have a comforting or pleasant taste.

Cytophylactic
Certainly not a term that pops up over the typical dinner conversation, a cytophylactic is believed to protect cells and fight infections. They are thought to increase something known as leucocytes, which are responsible for stimulating cellular regeneration and repair.

Depurative
Those who are into detoxing and cleansing are all about the depurative, a term that means something has purifying and detoxifying properties, cleansing away wastes and toxins from the system.

Digestive
Something that aids in digestion.

Disinfectant
This means that the solution has anti-microbial properties or agents.

Diuretic
If you look to the very center of the word, "ure", you'll get a hint. Diuretics cause your body to increase the production and passage of urine.

That's all for today folks. I'll be back soon, starting with "emenagogue!"

What Is An Aromatherapy Inhaler?

There are a number of different options available when searching for an aromatherapy diffuser. When it comes to being compact, practical and within easy reach, aromatherapy inhalers are a great option.

Set of 4 Aromatherapy Inhalers
Dimensions: Roughly 5/8" x 2"
Our inhalers are 5/8" in diameter and a little over 2" long. Your kit of four inhalers comes in a convenient flip-top carrying tin.

The typical inhaler will last from 3-6 months.

Although the inhaler is not intended to be inserted into the nasal cavity but instead to "block off" the nostril for an intense scent experience, you shouldn't share your nasal aromatherapy inhalers with others. Instead, invite them to order one from our Facebook Shop.

You can disinfect your inhaler by swiping them down with a cotton ball dampened with rubbing alcohol (avoid getting alcohol into the scent release hole at the top) as needed.

Ready for your kit of four? Order one for you or a friend using the link below!

Aromatherapy Inhalers & The Power of Scent

Aromatherapy Inhalers & The Power of Scent

Escentio RESOLUTE Aromatherapy Inhalers
Escentio RESOLUTE Aromatherapy Inhalers
People (especially men) are often called visual creatures, but science continues to show that our sense of smell is even more powerful. For example, the average person has a measured visual recall of roughly 50% after about three months. Smells, however, can be remembered with a 65% accuracy after an entire year.

Smell also happens to be the sense most intimately linked to our emotional recall - especially from our youngest years. Studies have shown that an estimated 75% of emotions are triggered by scent, and these are often linked to positive feelings like pleasure, comfort and well-being.

Aromatherapy inhalers allow you to tap into this science, both intentionally and at will, often with great personal success.

Introducing Escentio RESOLUTE

Escentio RESOLUTE Aromatherapy Inhalers
The 4 Escentio RESOLUTE Aromatherapy Inhalers
Escentio RESOLUTE is the first product in a line of aromatherapy kits that allow users to use their sense of smell, paired with a premium, targeted blend of 100% pure essential oils. The RESOLUTE four-scent line up has been specifically blended to offer essential oil combinations that aid those who are quitting something: whether it's smoking cigarettes, gambling, shopping or over-indulging.

The common denominator in all of these bad habits is that when you try to quit, withdrawal kicks in - and so do the cravings.

Bit of a Boost Bergamot

Escentio RESOLUTE focuses on creating four unique scent experiences in the Citrus Blend that help soothe cravings and boost confidence. The first, Bit of a Boost Bergamot contained 100% pure bergamot essential oil. Bergamot (also known as sour orange) may not be a term you're familiar with, but the chances are high you've encountered it without even knowing. When combined with black tea, bergamot transforms the tea into a very popular blend - Earl Grey. Historically, bergamot has been used in aromatherapy to produce alertness, contentment, creativity, focus, joy and improved performance.

Mind Over Matter Mandarin

The second, Mind Over Matter Mandarin contains 100% pure mandarin essential oil. Native to Asia, mandarin (also called tangerine) was introduced into Europe in 1805 and made it to the US 40 years later. It's been used to diminish scars, stretchmarks and skin cracks for ages. In aromatherapy, mandarin is employed to offer a balancing, uplifting and calming of the spirit.

Go Get 'Em Grapefruit

The third, Go Get 'Em Grapefruit contains 100% pure grapefruit essential oil. Another native of the East, today the world's largest producers are the United States, Brazil and Israel. Grapefruit is very energizing, used by aromatherapists to boost alertness, confidence, performance and a positive attitude.

Nasal Nirvana Neroli

Finally, the fourth aromatherapy inhaler is Nasal Nirvana Neroli. The original ingredient of eau de cologne, this southeastern Asian native bitter orange tree was introduced to high society in the Western world in 17th Century Italy by the Duchess Bracciano, Princess of Nerola. It was a favorite of creative genius Leonardo DaVinci and is prized by aromatherapists for its powers of creativity, peace, restfulness and improved self-image.

Each of these scent experiences allows you to escape to an inner world that is calm, cool and collected - without leaving your desk or car or dinner table. You'll feel restful, relaxed, self-aware and much more confident.

The Confidence to Confront Cravings - Whenever They Strike!

One Escentio RESOLUTE kit contains four individual aromatherapy inhalers for each of the four citrus oils. The tins are perfectly sized for traveling and will fit easily in pockets or pocketbooks. Cravings aren't polite - they don't make appointments! They just show up and we want you to be ready!
